Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte arrives in Brunei for a three-day state visit

PHILIPPINE President Rodrigo Duterte arrived in Brunei for a three-day state visit. Last month the president’s initial visit to Brunei was cancelled because of a deadly blast in his home city of Davao.

There are about 23,000 Filipinos residing in the Sultanate. Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Brunei were established on January 1, 1984.

First on his itinerary was a meeting with thousands of Filipinos at the National Indoor Stadium.  Thousands had signed up for the community meeting with the president, with some waiting over 8 hours. In his speech, Duterte expressed his appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for hosting Filipinos and being kind to them.
